Side B is pleased to present the third mix in our contributor-curated mixtape series: Gotta Get Some Lovin’!

Today, July 28th 2011, is a special day for Canadians born before 1990. Canadian hip-hop trio Organized Rhyme – best known as comedian Tom Green’s short-lived rap group – will reunite as part of Green’s appearance at the Just For Laughs Festival. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, just do yourself a favour and listen to this mix, which kicks off with the band’s first and last radio single, “Check The O.R.” After that comes thirty minutes of summertime rap that should keep the good vibes going.

1. Organized Rhyme – “Check the O.R.” // Still a timeless track with some classic lines.

2. Soul Position – “The Extra Mile” // From Soul Position’s 2006 release Things Go Better with RJ and Al, a collaboration between RJD2 and Al Sheppard, AKA Blueprint.

3. Too $hort – “Gotta Get Some Lovin’” // ’90s gangsta rap about gettin’ some pussy. Can’t go wrong there.

4. Shad “The Old Prince Still Lives At Home” // This has gotta be one of the best hip hop songs to ever come out of Canada. Shad is an expert at making you dance and laugh at the same time.

5. N.W.A. – “Something Like That” // A group that needs no introduction. This is a cut from their debut record Straight Outta Compton, often considered to be one of the best albums of all time.

6. Ol’ Dirty Bastard – “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” // Classic tune from the late, great ODB.

7. A Tribe Called Quest – “Left My Wallet in El Segundo” // Yet another great hip hop group that should need no introduction. This song always stood out to me, especially as a summertime listen.

8. The RZA – “Grits” ft. Allah Real, Masta Killa // From the Wu-Tang Clan member’s 2003 release Birth of A Prince, which for some reason earned an insulting 3.1 from Pitchfork.
