Above is a shot of Frances Bean Cobain, 19-year-old daughter of grunge legends Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. As AUX points out, Frances posed for photographer Hedi Slimane, and Side B now has a very weird collective boner. You can see more of the photos below, or view the entire series on Slimane’s photo diary.
Fun fact!: Frances’ godfather is Michael Stipe of R.E.M. Her godmother? Drew Barrymore. READ MORE »
The long wait is over: Superstar songstress Leslie Feist will release her highly-anticipated album Metals October 4th on Arts & Crafts here in Canada, and on Cherrytree/Interscope in the US of A. But before she does that she’s decided to unveil her album cover in a very innovative and interactive way.
If you head to the Canadian songstress’ Facebook wall you see that she’s posted the album cover, but it’s covered in numbers and colourless. This is because Feist wants YOU – yes YOU! – to paint by numbers using the colours provided and reveal the album cover. You can either print out or download the album art for Metals and the winner of this contest will receive “something special.” Who knows what that could be? So if you’re the artsy type, print out that cover and get painting! The official album cover will be revealed August 2nd.
Are you excited to hear St. Vincent’s upcoming record Strange Mercy? Same! Unfortunately it seems like we’ll have to put up with a cryptic Twitter campaign before the beautiful, beautiful songstress will lay the first single down on us. Earlier today, St. Vincent (real name Annie Clark) told her twitter followers to “Please RT #strangemercy and help reveal all at strangemercy.com”. ” Above is a screenshot of the website, which seems to have a scale measuring twitter response, and will presumably reveal some interesting teaser videos and, eventually, an MP3.
Unnecessary social media campaign with minimal reward? Yup. Did I already send my #strangemercy tweet? Yup. And you should too – we can’t all be suckers if we’re in it together, right?
If you forgot how awesome St. Vincent is, I’ve posted a few videos below: READ MORE »
If the Internet is correct, than the image you see above is the album artwork for Lil Wayne‘s highly-anticipated Tha Carter IV. Let’s hope that’s the case because its kind of awesome/hilarious. Originally scheduled to drop on May 16th, Weezy’s ninth full-length studio album is now due out sometime in June. Hit the jump to view the tracklist.
Gotta love a well-made poster. This one captures Chilly Gonzales’ megalomania perfectly. If your walls are looking a bit bare, head to You’re Some Horse for this and other great gig posters.
Here’s a clip of improv a’capella artist Reggie Watts doing what he does best, with some zany visuals courtesy of Jake Lodwick. I like when Reggie gets really excited and dances.
Credit goes to Bobby Solomon at Kitsune Noir for pointing out these outstanding gig posters for the Arcade Fire’s current tour. The one above advertises their recent Toronto show, which I had the pleasure of attending. There are more posters embedded below, and if you want to get your hands on these bad boys, you can head to the Burlesque Design online store and shell out roughly 35 bucks.
If you’re a Wolf Parade fan, I highly recommend you have a listen to PS I Love You. You’ll notice right away how much WP’s Spencer Krug can be heard in the vocals, but musically the band is far more garage-rock. Below is the apocalyptic “2012″, a short but sweet track off their soon to be released debut LP Muster Station. I imagine the end of the world in 2012 will be just as frantic and unforgiving as this track: PS I Love You – 2012
Next, have a listen to the humble lo-fi rock of Cloud Nothings, a one-man garage pop project from Dylan Baldi. Seems like Baldi has yet to land a record deal, so spread this great tune “Hey Cool Kids” around to all your buds: Cloud Nothings – Hey Cool Kids
I caught on to Superhumanoids thanks to a post on the excellent art+design blog Kitsune Noir. Ironically, I feel like their EP Urgency (which you should listen to and download over at their soudcloud page) has everything but urgency. But while their songs may be kind of forgettable, they are all worth listening to in full. Here’s “Dangerous Strangers” – listen to the whole thing, and if you like what you hear then check out the rest of Urgency.
There’s a great slideshow on Westword.com of a day in the life of the infamous party animal Andrew W.K. Photos include AWK slamming a beer, his hilarious merch, Andrew hyperventilating after the show, and a huge lineup of fans waiting to meet the legend. Spoiler alert: EVERYBODY IS PARTYING HARD. Check out the photos here.
I spoke to Andrew earlier this year while he was touring with the Calder Quartet, a classical string ensemble. He was not donning his all-white attire, and I was admittedly a bit disappointed. He’s also surprisingly philosophical and incredibly articulate. You can watch the interview embedded below, or click these words that you are reading right now.
